An
Aftercare Transitional Living Home for At-Risk Youth
A Problem:
Delinquent at-risk youth
upon leaving a juvenile correctional facility are all too often faced with the crisis
of having no place to go, having no place to call home.
Their
parents have become disinterested
and have
abandoned them, or, their home is so dysfunctional that the courts say
they cannot return home. This very real crisis causes them to feel they
have no hope.

Transitional living for
these youth is very limited and faith-based transitional living
facilities in Texas are non-existent, most of these youth find
themselves placed into Texas Youth Commission facility
until the age of 18 and often to the age of 21. However, many of these
youth end up back in jail as career criminals. Occasionally, the court
system will step in and remand a youth into the custody of a foster
parent, hoping this will provide the kind of support and community
interaction that has been missing in the youth’s life.
A Solution: The
Discovery Farm project a faith-based residential
transitional living model for these youth between the ages of 16 - 19
years old.
